The Winter of 2022-2023 was a below average snow total year, but it was a great year of learning and growth. Going into 2022/23 we switched up the game, and invested heavily in innovative ways to support our clients. We switched our residential snow routes to primarily use tractors with an inverted snowblower for driveway clearing. Our trucks continue to support our sidewalk/shoveling teams, but we believe the Canadians know snow best, and are adopting the technology they've used for years.
This new way of operating will help reduce turf, landscape, lighting and driveway damage, not to mention those piles of 'pushed snow' in your yard. These tractors allow us to back into a driveway, drop the snowblower and blow snow as we're driving out.
As backups, we will continue to utilize trucks with 'rear plows'. Using the same concept, we can back into a driveway, lower our rear plow, and drag the snow out, away from garage doors. Front plows were built for roads, not for driveways. We're trying to change the game, and the service level for our clients in Wellesley and surrounding communities.
Last year we also adopted a 'seasonal only' philosophy - this means that you're charged one flat rate, and every storm is covered (up to 50", which we have not had since 2015). While it was a slightly lower than 'normal' snow year, we were able to better serve our clients because we were on a seasonal only model. What we found is that with seasonal only, there is no ambiguity. If it is snowing and is going to accumulate 2" or more, we're rolling. When we were running 'per-push' in previous seasons, especially for the borderline storms (2" or 3" with a rain and snow mix, etc. etc) if we didn't service, we would have half our clients upset that we were not there, and if we did service we would have half our clients that were annoyed that we were there and they were going to get charged.
For 2023-2024 we will only be servicing Wellesley for residential snow. For commercial, we will still be servicing Wellesley and the surrounding communities.
